Understanding workers' compensation is beneficial whether you are a supervisor, manager, or team lead, in a human resource role, a business owner or a contributing employee.  Dealing with job-related injuries can be costly, confusing and complex, with significant consequences to both employer and the injured employee.  The employer and direct supervisor can have an individual impact on an employee's recovery and on the overall cost for the organization.  This session will provide the information needed to assure the injured employee's best recovery. The workers' compensation system protects both employers and employees. 

You will learn how total costs to the organization can be controlled, and how to avoid some of the difficulties and problems employers and employees face following an injury, including how to work effectively with everyone involved with the injured employee, insurance carriers and doctors. 

 

Pat Crawford is a Workers' Compensation/Return to Work Specialist for the Texas Division of Workers' Compensation. For 25 years, prior to joining the Division, she was a Workers' Compensation Specialist and Human Resource Manager for Levi Strauss & Co. She managed workers' compensation claims and costs as well as related legislative and regulatory matters, in 13 states. She served on the Board of Directors establishing the Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance Fund, which eventually became Texas Mutual Insurance Co. She has participated in numerous committees and activities addressing workers' compensation and labor concerns across the country. Her business and HR background has provided "hands on" experience in dealing with the difficulties often faced by employers in controlling workers' compensation costs and limiting unnecessary disability following a work related illness or injury.
